Kodak plans to open technology training center in China

Kodak CEO Antonio Perez visited China this week to meet with customers, talk with business leaders at an AMCHAM China event and to announce plans to open The Kodak Regional Technology Centre in Shanghai. In an interview with Bloomberg, Antonio notes that demand for digital printing is increasing as companies in China are looking to transition into more dynamic business models.

As the second largest printing market in the world, Kodak is working with the industry to integrate new technologies that are transforming the publishing and packaging printing markets. The Centre, which is expected to open in the first-half of 2014, will showcase the latest developments in commercial printing technology, provide training  to customers and partners, and demonstrate innovative new business applications.  Our aim is to make this new Technology Centre a tremendous resource for our customers to learn about winning new applications and develop strategies to grow their businesses in China and across the Asia-Pacific region.

Sydney’s Cojo ramps up its digital business

It’s great to see that our customers are getting  a little media spotlight for the great work they do on behalf of their clients.  Cojo, which is one of Australia’s top mailing and fulfillment service houses is currently operating two KODAK NEXPRESS machines. The quote below from Cojo’s Rod Jone’s is really what it’s all about:

The first one won us business. The second one has enabled us to continue adding clients to that digital offering. In order to keep up with demand, we needed a second engine, he said. There’s a general increase in demand for digital print. Because we’re a mailhouse and it’s all variable stuff, there’s increasing sophistication in the DM stuff that goes out, and that can’t be achieved with the offset-and-laser-overprint combination.

Kodak wins three awards at Graph Expo 2012

It’s always nice to receive recognition by your industry peers. Kodak was just awarded three “Must See Em’s” awards by Graph Expo 2012 for our digital printing, workflow and packaging solutions.

The products that were awarded include:

  • KODAK NEXPRESS Gold Dry Ink: a gold metallic sparkle effect using a gold-tinted Dry Ink for applications such as direct mail, certificates, photos, tickets and many others. Customers can create different variations of gold-toned tints or different effects by putting combinations of process colors underneath the gold.
  • KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal System, version 6.5 is a web-based management system that makes it easier for print buyers, prepress operators, and service representatives to submit jobs, proof and approve work, track progress, and collaborate on changes. The latest version includes an application that allows users to do so from an Apple iPad tablet.
  • KODAK FLEXCEL Direct System uses innovative, energy-efficient, high-power laser engraving to produce superior quality press-ready elastomer sleeves with increased production throughput. The system makes affordable, high-quality, in the round flexo sleeve production a reality and demonstrates Kodak’s ongoing commitment to deliver truly differentiated solutions into the packaging segment.

Kompass picks Kodak

Karachi-based Kompass Packaging has signed a contract with Kodak to bring the first Flexcel NX digital flexographic system into Pakistan.The investment represents a key part of Kompass Packaging’s strategy to attempt to convert its customers from gravure to flexographic printing. Kompass Packaging chief executive Hasal Jalil said: “98% of Pakistani printing is still produced gravure. Flexo printing technology has so many more benefits – it is cheaper, more efficient and it can produce shorter runs cost-effectively. We are giving the market another option.”

The company has also bought Kodak’s Approval digital color management system and the Prinergy Powerpack workflow software to allow it to increase its digital capabilities.

The new machines are due to be installed at Kompass Packaging’s plant in Karachi in August.
