India’s Rachna opens up new growth opportunities

Rachna Prints, a Bhivandi-based start-up focused on pre-press, recognised an opportunity to help its customers in the very large format print market improve their productivity, while producing higher quality printing for their clients.  The company has chosen to migrate away from its conventional plate exposing process and has invested in a Kodak Trendsetter 1600, a very large format (VLF) CTP platesetter.

In an interview with PrintWeek India, Ashish Vazirani, managing director at Rachna Prints, explained why they decided to make the switchPrintWeek India Logo “We were using the conventional plate exposing technology for which film is required. Procuring a film positive of 40x56inch is expensive and a difficult task for our customer and us. Moreover, the quality achieved by using the conventional method is not very high. The important factor is time. The Kodak VLF platesetter will help in reducing the time and saving money. It will provide higher quality printing with faster turnaround and more control on the press.”

Print Newspaper industry adopts to challenges by innovating with hybrid printing applicatons

As circulation and print advertising revenues continue to decline, the question from printers today is how to create a newspaper model that is attractive to both readers and advertisers, whilst providing a healthy margin for publishers. To address this challenge, Kodak hosted 140 professionals from the Newspaper, Advertising, Distribution, and Printing industry from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, and South Korea at a 3 day seminar.

A major focus of the seminar dived into how some of the world’s leading publishers are giving their web presses a new lease on life by integrating hybrid inkjet systems, like Kodak’s PROSPER S SERIES high-speed digital inkjet heads.

These hybrid systems are helping publishers offer their advertisers dynamic new ways to target their customers with variable data and targeted marketing campaigns that deliver a higher ROMI.

See how some of our customers, including Germany’s Axel Springer and China’s Shenzhen Press Group are  transforming their businesses with hybrid inkjet in these great case studies.

Kodak customers rack up 23 Awards at FTA Flexography Awards.

A big congratulations to all of our customers from from North America, Europe, Japan and Australia who took home a  total of 23 awards in six categories for  eye-catching jobs produced with KODAK FLEXCEL NX Plates at 2013 Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) Excellence in Flexography Awards.    Kodak customers also claimed three of the seven coveted overall “Best of Show” honors for their outstanding projects. Flexel

One of the trends noted by judges is that today’s technology is helping flexographic printing achieve photorealistic quality. Many of them indicated that flexography is continuing to rival and even surpass offset, gravure, and digital print processes.  Photos and information about all the winners can be found in the May issue of FLEXO magazine at www.flexography.org

Sydney’s Cojo ramps up its digital business

It’s great to see that our customers are getting  a little media spotlight for the great work they do on behalf of their clients.  Cojo, which is one of Australia’s top mailing and fulfillment service houses is currently operating two KODAK NEXPRESS machines. They were recently profiled in ProPrint magazine, where they talked about some of the major new jobs they’ve handled over the past few months. The full article is online hereProPrint_Australia

The quote below from Cojo’s Rod Jone’s is really what it’s all about:

The first one won us business. The second one has enabled us to continue adding clients to that digital offering. In order to keep up with demand, we needed a second engine, he said. There’s a general increase in demand for digital print. Because we’re a mailhouse and it’s all variable stuff, there’s increasing sophistication in the DM stuff that goes out, and that can’t be achieved with the offset-and-laser-overprint combination.

All that is Gold…..

Print21Historically, gold leaf or gold foil was a prohibitively expensive way of achieving gold effects in printing. But soon gold will be available to everyone, thanks to KODAK NEXPRESS Gold Dry Ink, a unique option for the NEXPRESS Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions that adds a gold metallic, sparkle effect for applications such as direct mail, magazine and catalog covers, certificates, photos, tickets, and other special projects.

To showcase Gold Dry Ink, Kodak collaborated with five different magazines around the world to create special covers that feature the attention-getting gold effects, including Australia’s Print 21 magazine.

Patrick Howard, Print21’s publisher commented:

“Our cover image was specially selected to highlight the creative possibilities of the gold ink. The pigments in the Gold Dry Ink produce a sparkle effect that is similar to that achieved with offset metallic inks. The Gold solution follows the pattern already set by Kodak with its dimensional printing effect, utilizing the Fifth Imaging Unit of the press to add decorative or tactile layers to the CMYK inks.”
