Drupa Daily Front Page: Kodak prospers in Asia

Kodak’s (Hall 5, stand F09) charge into the Asian market continues to gather momentum as it announced the sale of one of its flagship high-speed, four-colour inkjet presses to Toppan Printing.

It is the fourth Prosper 5000XL bought by the Japanese giant within just six months, after it invested in three of the machines last November.
The high-volume inkjet leviathan will be installed at the 50,000-staff corporation’s Toppan Forms business, Kodak’s largest Prosper user in Asia.
Toshiro Masuda, senior managing director at Toppan Forms, said the investment was driven by “a tremendous increase in both jobs and volumes”.
“Our existing presses have been running at full production, and the addition of a fourth Prosper 5000XL press will enable us to continue our path of steady growth and best serve our customers across multiple markets,” he said.

Toppan Forms is our latest customer  to add another Kodak PROSPER 5000 XL Press as it seeks to support its continued growth in its information centered business. We’re especially pleased share this news as Toppan Forms is a long-time customer of Kodak Japan and they have exemplified the spirit of innovation that is taking shape across the printing industry.

Toppan Forms utilizes the PROSPER 5000XL Press as part of its personalized solution for the Japanese education publishing market. The system allows print buyers to use a fully digital workflow to cost effectively and efficiently move orders from client to completion. In addition, the PROSPER 5000XL Press plays a central role as Toppan Forms continuously offers new capabilities and services in high-speed variable-data printing.

Defiant Perez hails Kodak

Kodak chairman and chief executive Antonio Perez was in defiant mood as drupa opened. He said Kodak (Hall 5, stand F09) had “the widest and deepest portfolio to serve hybrid printing” and addedthat it had come to the show with “the largest set of new launches we have ever exhibited at drupa.” However, he was circumspect about whether Kodak would join those firms licensing Landa’s Nanography: “I will meet with Benny [Landa] and we’ll talk about everything,” Perez said. “I think we have the solutions we need, but anyone who comes with innovations to this industry should be made welcome.”
