For these brands, the environmental credentials of their print suppliers can mean the difference between winning and losing the contract. Investment in technology like SONORA is a big reason that brands from the cosmetics, infant formula, and consumer goods sector continue to place their trust and print jobs with KAVA.

KAVA’s approach to managing its impact on the environment is also earning applause from China’s regulators –who have made it a priority for industry’s like printing to reduce their environmental impact. It received the “Energy-efficient Star Award” in 2012 and the “Clean Production Enterprise Certificate” in 2014 from the government. In 2016, KAVA reinforced its commitment to the environment and social responsibility by establishing the Suzhou City Green Printing Engineering and Technology Research Center. In the same year, the company showcased its green printing practices at the prestigious Suzhou Technology Fair.

Kodak launched New Press On Video Series

In Oct 2016, Kodak PSD launched a new phase of the #Press On marketing campaign, showcasing our Printer partners around the globe – celebrating their successes and highlighting their work, enabled by Kodak products such as SONORA plates, our platesetters and NexPress machines. We’re also exploring their facilities, looking at their sustainability efforts and visiting the communities in which they do business. Ultimately, we’re showing how our Printers are living the PSD vision of Making the World a Better Place Through Print.

We are very proud to unveil a new video blog series featuring our host personality, Tad Carpenter – a well-known American designer, illustrator, author and teacher. While he is not a typical print industry ‘insider,’ we chose him to represent Kodak as a vibrant, enthusiastic, print fan. In this first episode, Tad takes us on a journey through Germany, visiting two Printers – Lokay and Eversfrank – who are both doing great things with sustainable print in a country extremely focused on sustainability.

The plan is to create a series of these video blogs, travelling around the world highlighting a diverse mix of Printers, and featuring different Kodak products, print applications and industry segments. For this initial pilot, we’re focused on the US and Canada, Germany and UK.  In the near future, we will also move to Asia. Please stay in tune.

Print. For Good.

As long as there are creatives — authors, photographers, designers, publishers, printers, and more — print will flourish. And Kodak will remain committed to helping printers grow and thrive along with the industry. #kodakdrupa  #drupa2016  #printforgood

Kodak SONORA Process Free Plates Receive Environmental Labeling Type II recognition in China

China Environmental Labelling
China, 23 October 2015 – Kodak announced today that its family of SONORA Process Free Plates – SONORA XP Process Free Plates and SONORA NEWS Process Free Plates – received Environmental Labeling Type II recognition from China’s Central United Certification Center. The certification program, based on standards endorsed by China’s National Environmental Protection Bureau, recognizes SONORA’s ability to improve the sustainability of the printing industry.

SONORA Plates, designed for commercial printers of all sizes, as well as large web publication printers, offer a commercially sound and environmentally improved solution for printing a wide range of applications. With SONORA, printers can increase productivity, simplify operations, and lower costs by reducing steps in the plate making process. At the same time, the plates eliminate the need for processing, and reduce energy and natural resource consumption. These key attributes create a solution that provides equally important economic and environmental benefits for the commercial printing market.

For example, a typical processor weighs 735 kg, measures 1.3 x 3.5 meters, and uses 2,398 liters of chemistry, 40,000 liters of water and 5,523 kW of electricity annually. With the implementation of SONORA Plates, all costs and environmental impacts associated with the life cycle of the processing equipment are eliminated.

Kodak’s Loïs Lebegue, Managing Director of the Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa (ALMA) region, said that the eco-labeling is a testament to Kodak’s commitment to sustainability. “SONORA is playing an important role in helping commercial printers in China reduce their environmental footprint while improving their bottom line. Printers here are embracing the product because it delivers a clear and immediate benefit to the sustainability of their operations.” (more…)
